North Oak Cliff Democrats

Dallas, Texas 75208

April Pints & Politics

Hi folks, we had a busy spring with the primaries and candidates. Our next meeting is on Tuesday April 30th, 5:30 PM at PhD 1300 W Davis St at the corner with N Clinton.

Don't forget to vote in the upcoming Joint Election on Saturday May 4th. We have the 2024 Dallas Bond issue on the ballot and elections for the Dallas County Appraisal District. Please vote for these bonds, they fund library replacement in Oak Cliff, safety improvements to our streets, and parks projects among many others.

The last legislative session created a law that requires Appraisal District boards be elected, when they were formerly appointed by the district. Republicans think they can take control of these non-partisan boards to benefit the wealthy and corporate interests.

Only one of the Dallas County Appraisal board positions (position 1) is contested. One candidate, P. Wylie Burge, is a Republican podiatrist from Lakewood. The other is Ekambar Kumar Singirikonda, a Democrat, who appears to work in software engineering management for Toyota. Not much knows about either ones' experience with appraisal or property values.

Kendall Scudder is also running uncontested for place 2, but he does have a background in real estate and appraisal. He is also endorsed by Progress Texas and is on the State Democratic Executive Committee.

Alexandra Stewart is running uncontested for place 3. Unclear as to who she really is, so her background is unknown.

We also have a primary runoff election between Sheriff Marian Brown and former Sheriff Lupe Valdez. This runoff election is May 28th, Early Voting starts May 22nd, so don't be confused with the Joint Election May 4th.
